Osman Obaid is a Sudanese cartoonist and press editor specializing in political and social caricature since 2008. His work documents issues of freedom, human rights, and political and social transformation in Sudan and the Arab region, using visual satire as a language of critique, reflection, and advocacy for justice and human dignity. Through his drawings, he highlights the daily struggles of ordinary people, exposes abuses of power, and sheds light on censorship, war, displacement, and social inequality. His cartoons seek not only to criticize reality, but also to inspire reflection, dialogue, and hope for a more just and free society, making his work a visual archive that accompanies the stages of change and protest movements in Sudan and the wider region.
His cartoons have been published in Sudanese, Arab, and international newspapers and platforms, and he has participated in international exhibitions and events dedicated to freedom of expression and democracy.

Academic Qualification
Bachelor’s in Economics and Rural Development – University of Gezira, Sudan.

Award
Award of Excellence in the International Editorial Cartoon Competition for Press Freedom – Canada (2026), and third place in the caricature competition on family issues – Family Institute, Qatar.

International Exhibitions and Participations
World Press Freedom Conference 2020; the Exhibition on Equality in Rights and Gender Equality – Drøbak, Norway; Olense Kartoenale – Belgium; in addition to other participations and showcases of works in international platforms and exhibitions specialized in caricature and freedom of expression.

Professional Experience
Cartoonist and press editor since 2008. Worked with Al Balad newspaper, Al-Seyaha newspaper, Al-Jarida newspaper, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper, and the Norwegian newspaper Haugesunds Avis, in addition to publishing works in Sudanese, Arab, and international newspapers and platforms.

Community Initiatives
Organizing a youth competition in the art of caricature in cooperation with the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, and delivering training workshops for young people in caricature and visual expression, supporting emerging talents and promoting a culture of dialogue and peace through visual arts.
